Essential fatty acids are not #essential.
Long term fish oil supplementation has been proven to do the exact opposite of what you have been told. Many people think it is #antiinflammatory but it really just suppresses #inflammation it doesn't reduce it. This is a very western medicine approach that I do not support. We need to get to the #rootcause!
#Fish oil is high in polyunsaturated fats. Some other polyunsaturated fats are; sunflower oil, flaxseed oil, safflower oil, grapeseed oil and many nuts and seeds. These types of fats are highly unstable as they consist of double carbon bonds that are prone to oxidation with heat, light and oxygen causing lipid peroxidation. Oxidized fats have been linked to many health issues like accelerated cellular aging, #fattyliver, impairing #glucose oxidation, reducing cognition, increasing LDL cholesterol and so much more. Keep in mind that polyunsaturated fats are impossible to completely avoid and almost all fat contains a mixture of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Limiting the amount consumed is the goal, not avoidance.
I know you are probably thinking okay so fish oil is fine as long as you put it in a dark cabinet and avoid heating it? No because humans are warm blooded creatures. We run at about 37 degrees celcius and consist of light and oxygen. These oils will oxidize within us before they even get to our bloodstream. #VitaminE tends to mitigate these negative effects, hence why whole nuts and seeds are high in Vitamin E (any processed plant based food will be stripped of vitamin E). However, fish oil will destroy pretty much any Vitamin E in the body.
Although I do agree that too much #omega6 can cause inflammation, more #omega3 is not the answer. We need to balance this ratio out by ensuring that our fat intake is mainly coming from quality #saturatedfats like #eggs, grass fed butter, dairy, meat etc.
